Piazza di Porta Ravegnana closed until the completion of restoration work. All updates on the tower safety works, alternative mobility, public transport and evacuation plan.
The Mayor of Bologna, in conjunction with the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, has ordered the closure of the area around the Garisenda tower from 21 October 2023 for the performance of new monitoring activities. The ordinance comes after the Garisenda Scientific and Technical Committee, active since 2018, expressed a need to refine its analysis of current data and acquire new data for the execution of the final restoration work. This operation will see Piazza di Porta Ravegnana closed for a few years until completion of the tower restoration work.
The works site for the Garisenda safety operations will start by November, with the installation of barriers to close off the area around the Piazza di Porta Ravegnana. This will serve to protect the area around the Towers from any falling materials until the completion of the works structure surrounding the Garisenda. The site will also be used for restoration activities.
At the moment, the Asinelli Tower is scheduled to be closed.
A Municipal Operations Centre (COC) for the safety of the Garisenda Tower, previously set up as a precautionary measure, will now act as a permanent crisis unit and will assist the mayor in taking all civil protection measures deemed necessary.
